Trail Reports

2020-2021 season
Reports 41 to 50 of 68    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Afternoon
Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
Groomer passes made around 12-1 PM. Higher winds will cause drifting across the skate deck. This evening got a report that classic was good on skate deck. Should only improve from here.

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions and left with a smile. I was surprised how much was covered with snow/ice. Only spot not covered was about 3 foot of a wooden bridge which I walked carefully over. The rest of the dirt spots were easy to avoid. With that said it was very crusty and tracked, icy in many spots, but I was happy to ski close to my house. I am glad I tried it and will go again when I don't have the time to drive to Lapham peak.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
No grooming for a while but even after the warm up, precip that was wet and frozen combo, it was still pretty decent. Some bridges are fried so that is the explanation for partially open. Some park vehicle traffic / tracks but all in all there is the potential to ski.

What can you expect when it's 40° in January? Slushy and slow at times, icy and fast at others, small drifts and disappearing paths we'll make it feel like you are in the wild. It's certainly skiable and you will certainly get a workout skating. Hoping for more snow soon!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Rock skis ]
The classic track on the north side was washed out from use or covered with blown snow. I did only one loop and will wait until it's groomed again.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Got a few laps in tonight after work by headlamp. Lucky to have a dosage of beautiful fresh snow today that dusted all of the harder, iced ruts. Skied the large loop through the woods and by the pond, a couple sticky spots but also plenty of stretches to really get some nice glides in! No track set but there are a few established paths to trace. Get out and enjoy!

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Very icy, too many frozen groves to be an enjoyable ski. Go for a run instead and wait for more snow and grooming.

It was good but getting slow and warming up. No grooming today which is probably for best. If it rains tomorrow avoid skiing so that ruts don’t form and freeze in permanently.

Looks like the good conditions are slowly coming to an end. Some brown spots starting to show although the skating was doable today. Another grooming might save conditions for tomorrow.

It has been regularly groomed and considering the lack of snow, it is in fairly good shape. However, if you are planning to classic ski you might want to think twice. The north side (designated classic trail) is in poor shape. The tracks are either icy or "roughed up." In some spots they are not discernible. On the south side (skate trail) that goes over the golf course, the tracks were better, but iced over in most spots. I mostly double poled in the tracks or skied on the edge of the skate deck.
