Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We didn't quite wait for midnight to ski in the new year, but did see an orange sliver of moon hovering over downtown Minneapolis. Recent snow helps with recent tree trimming. There were a few sticks in a few spots, as well as a couple bare icy spots easily avoided. The skate deck is nice and smooth, if a bit soft yet. Classic tracks are skier-set through much of the trail.

Evening
Observation
As I drove by it looked like there were trails groomed and cars in the parking lot.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Good conditions still. The snow has softened up with the way weather. Still a lot of ruts from tree removal, but it's manageable.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We have a broken machine. Hopefully we don't melt away the next few days. Likely will not be grooming until after the Christmas week.

I haven't skied tons, so I don't know how this compares to other trails. There are several places where the tree workers drove over the trails (maybe 4-5) and there are big ruts with some tree debris around them. If you're not in a hurry to get anywhere it's not much of a problem; it just slows you down a bit. Overall the trails seemed fine and the skiing was nice.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
As a new skier (this is my second winter skiing) I found the classic tracks a bit too dicey for comfort due to the tree trimming, but others with more experience would probably do great stepping through or around the tire tracks, especially if skate skiing, as the course is more complete. But, wow! Coverage is great, and the snow is still all happy fluff on a hard base. Coloring outside the lines in some "user defined" trails was fun. So excited for the next round of grooming, this is my favorite course in the area! Hopefully trimming will be done soon.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
The trails are in good condition where the grooming is undisturbed, but about 15% of the trails have been wiped out by the tree-cutting equipment. The classic tracks are nearly full of oak leaves in a number of places. I usually scoop out a few dozen leaves each time I see that, and wonder what might happen if everyone did. Be careful if night skiing, as there are many places where the trail/tracks are suddenly crossed by large ruts from the tree equipment.

Forestry vs. Skiing, just a fact of life this month. Be careful because there are several places where the intersections of the ski trails and the logging trails are a little sketchy (deep ruts). Still no bare spots and the skate course is good. Not really a classic track in many places.

Skating Thursday evening was great. No more bare spots. What a difference new snow, cold temps. and a dedicated groomer can make. Thanks Mitch.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Groomed the new snow in tonight. Coverage is really good, lots of early season oak leaves is the only reason I say B skis. Please be patient with the tree work, we are grateful for the golf course folks allowing us to be out there.
