Some of the best skate ski conditions of the season this morning at 6:30! Fast, firm, perfect grooming, and clean snow with awesome sunrise. Classic tracks were also fast and in great shape. 24 degrees and blue wax worked well. Thanks to the groomers for keeping it going!

Awesome skiing at Hyland this morning! The skate deck was in great shape--not icy at all and no mashed potatoes. The classic tracks were a little icy, but I still had plenty of kick. The groomers continue to do an amazing job at Hyland!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Manufactured Snow Trails are packed, tracked and in good condition: Star, Willow Creek, Frog Town, Scenic Foothills, Boulder Ridge. Natural Snow Trails are packed, tracked and in fair packed surface and poor tracks; Hill, North and Nature Center Trails. The Lake and Hill Trails are in poor conditions. Note: Trails open 5 AM–10 PM. Visitor Center open weekends 8 AM–9 PM; weekdays 9 AM–9 PM. Rentals are available. Grooming occurs every night. Manufactured snow is holding up well!

Excellent conditions on the man made loop for both classic and skate - firm and fast this early morning! Also very clean snow so good skis are safe. Amazing how well the trail is being maintained - thanks to the Hyland crew!

Man made only. Went at about 6:30 pm. Not many people there. Willow Creek and Frog Town only. Trail looked to be mashed potatoes earlier but was starting to freeze. It was very treacherous. Especially in the downhills. Some steeper downhills had narrow stretches where people had snow plowed their way down. I jumped in the classic tracks for a short stretch. They were nice and fast. In retrospect, I should have used them more. Saw a report from the morning about how good it was and was crossing my fingers. But, I guess we’re at that time of year that morning is your best chance at a good trail.

My complements to the Hyland groomers... Of course the manmade was great, but I was shocked at how good the freshly groomed natural snow still was (at least on the North and Nature Center Loops). The bare spots (at the top of the Nature Center Hill, and two on the trail headed from the intersection to the manmade loop) were greatly increased since last week, but there was no need to remove skis to get around them. There was some ice down by the pond, but it could be carefully traversed. I appreciate the quality grooming again this year at Hyland, and the added attention that the natural snow has received in this wonderful snowier-than-recent-years season.

Afternoon

Beautiful afternoon three-generational ski at Hyland. Stayed on the made-snow loop and left off Boulder Ridge for the kids. The snow was definitely getting slushy in places under the afternoon sun (where pole plants cause a splash). That being said, the tracks were still in relatively good shape, and the deck was firmer than I expected for almost 50 degrees. The slushy spots were still fairly dense (no loose sugary stuff) and there were no icy spots by the afternoon.

Skied the man-made loop from 10-11 on Sunday morning. Just missed the best skiing by probably an hour as the snow was just starting to slow down when I started and got progressively slower with each lap. The Boulder Ridge downhill was still exhilarating but not icy -- just perfect. Lots of people out!

Another great day of natural snow skiing at Hyland. Hill was the most fun but Lake had a lot more icy sections today then yesterday so you have to want it. I only saw one person in 3 laps. North wasn’t bad either but snow was already getting soft by 9 am.

Wow again groomers! Skied 2.5 hours starting at 8:00 am. Man-made loop was really good, of course, but even the North trail (natural snow) was a great ski and groomed to perfecti Sure some bare spots but easy to dodge! So fun, get out there!
