Hit the trails at 5:30AM and skate skied. Amazing grooming (typical for Hyland) on the man-made trails with an inch of fresh snow falling while we skied. The only drawback was that it was a little slow due to the cold (6F at start) and fresh snow. And yes, the best news was that Boulder Ridge and the full 5K loop is now open! Way to go to the full team at Hyland for getting the 5K loop open in spite of the lack of real snow this year.

I checked out all the natural trails. Lake is in very poor shape with lots of wood chips being pulled up. Rock skis only. Everything else was generally fair with some occasional poor spots. Could use B skis but coverage was very thin so I would stick to rock skis.

Star, Willow and Frog Town were in very good condition, 2 to 3 inches of pretty dense loose snow on the uphills. Scenic Foothills that was open when I was here a few days ago was closed. It was 18 degrees with a moderate overcast. It was fairly crowded at my 11:40 start. I used FastWax Blue LF which seemed a little slow but it could have been just the loose snow on the climbs that slowed me.

Weird weather will not delay skiing! Manufactured Snow Trails Star, Willow Creek, Frog Town, and Scenic are packed, tracked and in good condition. Scenic Foothills needs more snow and will be closing to make snow, possibly tonight for a few days. There are no HS Meets until Jan. 4. HS practices are occurring throughout the day.
