Skied the inside trails starting at Schultz. Trails were pretty glazed over and fast. Had not been regroomed since Friday. Boot tracks getting worse over the northern trails. Trails are still relatively free of debris, which is rare at Lebanon what with all the oak trees.

It was a mixed bag today. Great west of Pilot Knob, good most of the rest of the park, except fair close to the Visitor Center (due to heavy traffic- but I'm always glad to see lots of folks skiing!) The two "dustings" of snow in the last 48 hours improved kick since Friday's ski. I noticed that the most recent grooming had been done by snowmobile, not Pistenbully. Glide was great today as it usually is with temps in the low 20's.

My report somewhat contradicts other reports for the day. I found the track somewhat soft and slow in most portions. It seemed like the groomer didn't level off the old track first so in some spots there were multiple, wavering tracks. In other areas it appeared to have fresh snowfall on the tracks. Overall it was slower than optimal, but still some of the best conditions in memory here. Use caution crossing the road to Camp Butwin, where there is a one foot cliff to the road. The one big plus today was very few boot prints, though I had to admonish a photographer and her subjects taking engagement photos to get off the trail in the pine forest -- that was a first.

Skied loops both east and west of Pilot Knob and Jensen Lake Trailhead. West loop tracks in far better condition than east side. Many east sections washed out from heavy usage. Tracks generally glazed, some sections icy underneath.

Classic skied Lebanon Hills this morning. East side trails ranged from perfect tracks and fresh snow to transformed and washed out tracks. Did the loop west of Pilot Knob Road which gets less use and skied "fresher." Always appreciate when the classic tracks are pulled up on the downhills and mostly they were although usually get set down too soon at the bottom. We were pleasantly surprised to find a trail groomed to the skate trails. Took that trail (road crossing on Johnny Cake Ridge Road) and then skied along Johnny Cake. Trail there was dirty as would be expected from road salt but firm and quite fun to ski alongside the cars. Skate trails in great shape, slightly soft (better for the kick) but overall good. First time skiing the skate trails and there are a number of exciting downhill corners and flow sections. If you like fun downhills, check it out! Not much traffic thus far but some corners still getting snow-plowed out.

Skate-skied Lebanon Hills West. Freshly groomed today by Pisten Bully. Soft skate deck. Slow going, except for very fast downhill curves. Dog paw prints in skate deck around whole loop.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the outer loop east of Pilot Knob around 3 - 4:30 PM. Conditions were variable. Some areas had fresh snow over the old tracks, some areas on the south trail were freshly groomed and tracked, most areas were freshly packed. The newly packed areas were the most troublesome with slow and sticky snow that built up on the bottom of our waxless fishscale skis. I image trying to use waxables would be even worse. The country website says conditions were packed only with "No tracks set due to snow quality". The deck was firm and most pole plants were fine, a few deep ones here and there. Temps were around 32. When I shoveled the snow earlier in the day it didn't seem particularly heavy or wet. Until they can attempt to regroom, which will hopefully happen with the colder temps, I wouldn't recommend skiing there.

Stopped to check trail conditions at the Schultz Lake Trailhead. Trail is packed but not tracked. Skiers appear to have made one decent track as far as I could see. Per the website: Classic-style Cross-Country Ski Trails: Open, fresh snow. East trails packed only Jan 19. No tracks set due to snow quality.

Another grand day at Lebanon. Started at Jensen and went west of pilot knob. Trails seemed freshly groomed. Snow was getting slushy where the sun shown but otherwise the skin skis were fast. Much more leaf litter on the east side of the trails. Under the pines a lot of snow was falling out of the trees and bringing pine needles and branches with it, so that was a lot slower. I was afraid the warm air would bring out the walkers, but pleasantly I think the shear number of skiers kept them at bay. Hopefully the base will survive the next few days to be regroomed.

Super fun morning at Leb! What a gorgeous morning! Love it so much! Biggest challenge was oak leaves on the tracks providing some "surprise" grip. Also, occasional sticks. Great conditions -- no bare spots.
