Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skied Baker late morning, and was pleasantly surprised how good the classic tracks were. A little slippery and leafy at times, especially on the Island Trail, but the rest of the trails were in really good shape. Thanks to the groomers for doing a great job! Hopefully it won't get too warm in the next couple of days.

Skied all trails around 10:00am, freesthyle. All in good shape with a little more stone and debris from time to time, easily skied around, B skis though. Classic tracks also appeared in good shape. Was freshly groomed and almost nobody there. Very nice snow, pretty fast.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skied Island, Hill, Timber and Prairie trails in the late afternoon Sunday. The classic track was remarkably good given the long stretch of little or no snow. Some debris on the trail and a few thin spots, but no bare ground and in most places a well set track with good depth. No ice that I recall. Extra Blue wax was perfect (temp 10-15 F).

Skied all trails (Island, Timber, Hill, Prairie), all good, a few scattered debris from time to time easily skied around. I think Baker has the best natural snow of the region, no ice at all. Snow was very good this morning.

Pretty good conditions but open sections were getting pretty windblown. Several exposed sections of Timberline, Prairie, and Fairway were down to a hard base with no loose snow on them. A few dirty snow spots but nothing that couldn't be avoided, and the wind was knocking down a lot of small branches, twigs, and leaves onto the skate deck. Overall pretty good conditions.

So glad I came out to Baker today for I have a feeling that after a couple warm sunny days the classic tracks may be missing in some areas. I'd say 95+ percent of the trail is incredible. The other 5 percent is thin with either dirt or grass poking out. All should be avoidable with caution. It was incredible how the wind has been able to pick up the little bit of loose snow in the openings and fill the tracks.

A beautiful day to ski in the cold at Baker. No wind and lots of sun! Great classic tracks, but the Island trail was full of leaves and debris. Note my photo of skis. Fell striding once on bark. First mile on new tracks to island trail was good and prairie trail, old tracks also good.

Significantly more skiers out today vs Friday mid day but the groomers were out taking care of the trails. There were a few more spots where debris was poking through thin spots, but those were easy to ski around. Overall great ski, thanks crew!

Skied classic from 8-10 am. Track was in good shape most everywhere. A few washed out sections, occasional leaf and bark debris. I'd estimate 98% good. Kicked with the Star/Caldwell Beta M16, worked well on all but the steepest climb for me.

Skate and classic both looked great. I skated the Fairway, Hill Trail, Timber and Prairie Trails. All were in good to excellent condition with a few trail connectors kicked out and some tree debris in sections. Most were corduroy with only a few other people out. Really enjoyed the ski.
