Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The Silver, Bronze, and a portion of the Gold trails were groomed this afternoon including a resetting of the classic tracks. The trails are well covered but the snow remains dry and powdery and little or no hardening of the surface has occurred. Cold temps tonight and additional passes with the groomer in the near future should help. The classic tracks in the first 1/2 km from the trail head have some grass showing. This is the area that has had thin coverage all season. More grooming is planned for tomorrow.

There were several inches of fresh, lovely snow on this spectacularly beautiful day. The skate deck was soft, but speed was good. We skied the gold loop, and encountered only one spot where our skis hit ice below the fresh snow. Tracks were well set and moderately fast on the downhills. Thanks to the groomers for a great job.

Couple of grooming passes made on all trails, including Ski Games and ballfields. Track set on all trails. Conditions still a bit on the soft side, But it's certainly a scenic Sunday.

Conditions surprisingly good. The skate deck is in decent condition especially in the woods. There are some spots in the open areas that are icy but can be easily avoided. Watch the downhills as they can be a bit fast. Nordic track was mostly non-existent throughout the system.

Recent grooming at Battle Creek. No classic track but a steady skate deck. Some debris, but is easily avoidable. Plenty of natural snow!

Groomed all of the trail system with at least one pass. Good coverage but a few bare and ice packed spots. Classic tracks are holding up in sections but not ideal. Sunshine and a slight breeze makes it worthwhile to get out.

Ran the groomer over the entire system at Battle Creek West this morning. The base is thin and hard but was able to scratch it up so it is skiable. Some icy patches so beware and the downhill are fast. Use your B skis and it is skiable for more advanced skiers. In fact some of the best snow conditions are on the hilly part of the Gold trail. Classic track is fair and we will reset it after we get more snow.

We visited Battle Creek about mid-day and experienced a real mix of conditions. If you're an experienced 20-something, it's not so daunting; if you're 50-something, the downhills may give you pause. Some areas were really quite good, especially most of the long climbs and interior wooded segments, but these were interspersed with thin and icy conditions. The meadow loop has pretty thin coverage, and the first long downhill into the woods was a bit unnerving since it was mostly ice. However, the steep downhills on the back side actually had pretty good coverage until you reach the tight left hand curves at the end of the runways. Those are pretty slick. We hopped across the road to look at the Ski Games loop and found this segment to be particularly had packed and rutted. It looks like it has received a lot more foot traffic and was pretty icy throughout in spite of being a more gentle/flat segment. Overall, not for the faint of heart and probably not the best for beginner skiers at the moment but a fun ski on natural snow, nonetheless.

Just finished grooming the Gold Loop at 10am. Thin and icy in spots but quite good in others. Enjoy!

Skied the World Cup Course. The skied-in classic track was very hard snow and icy in many spots. The groomer lines were seen, but didn't cut in very deep. A few skiers were out on the trails. Downhill sections were icy and scraped. Some grass was still showing even after the last snow.
