The Battle Creek groomers worked their magic one last time this season; absolutely wonderful skiing this morning! I don't know how they do it but this morning's skate deck was very nearly perfect, with just a few icy spots easily avoided. I had no worries whatsoever using good skis. Firm deck with a thin soft layer on top; fast and fun. Manmade only open at this point as per their earlier note. Once again, thank you thank you thank you for all the amazing work to make Battle Creek what it was this winter and hopefully will be for a long time to come; a complete game changer for skiing on the east side. Looking forward to next season already!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Here it is, my last Battle Creek grooming report for the season. Geez I hate to quit but the boss says no more! Groomed the man made snow trails and set new classic tracks. The colder temps will surely create some really good skiing tomorrow morning before it finally warms up. Conditions remain quite good with the exception of a short piece of trail at the beginning of the lower tree loop. The snow is very thin in this small area and will probably be the first to expose bare ground. I did not set a classic track through this section so be careful and stay near the center of the trail. Thanks to everyone who has offered positive comments throughout the season, I love being a BC groomer and your encouragement has really added to my enjoyment!

This was probably my last ski of this wonderfully long season. Special thanks to the groomers at battle creek for giving us one more groomed day. At 12:30 it was rather soft corn snow but glided pretty well. The hills were tough, so we stayed around the lower loop.

Given the full sun and my 12:30 start, the trail was in phenomenal condition. Almost all corn that got soft and wet in spots and prevented me from skating the hill but thank the Lord it was groomed and skied pretty fast. Wish Three Rivers hadn't quit grooming last Sunday or I had realized Battle Creek was the great late season venue it is because I wasted 2-4 days skiing poor conditions at Hyland and Elm Creek when I could have skied great conditions here. I have not skied here since long before snowmaking was added and what I recalled was an immediate climb and poor conditions turned me off. Now I know different. Great job creating this Ramsey County and tremendous job groomers.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Well we have reached the end. It looks like temps will remain above freezing at night and 60s during the upcoming days. The snowmaking loop will be groomed tonight for the final time this season. Trails will remain open until Monday for use but with the temps it will likely be very soft and wet. I want to thank the public for all the wonderful comments this season. It is always nice to see the work we do is appreciated by the users. Also like to thank snow making crew Shane, Al, Pat, Eric, Mark, Steve and Mike. Great first go at snowmaking. Special thanks to groomers Shane, Josh, Bill, Peter, Karl, Christian and John Fitzgerald who will bring it home tonight. Probably more of a job than he wanted. Last but not least Avho for being the driving force that made this place happen. Thanks to all and hope to see you all next year.

John Fitzgerald and his magic PistenBully continue to amaze. Not exactly mid-winter conditions because the snow is definitely transformed, but maybe even better. If you like smooth and fast, with immaculate grooming, this was a great morning for skiing.

[ Good skis ]
I was expecting good ski conditions. I was wrong they were great ski conditions today. Grooming plans: I talked to John, the head groomer, he said they're grooming tonight for Friday morning and that's probably the last day of grooming. I hate to make predictions but I think that tomorrow will be a Good Friday.

The skate deck at Battle Creek was amazing today–better than it's been all week. The tracks looked deep and firm but a little off color. The climb off of the plunge (the A-climb?) is bare but the main 3.3 course has full coverage.
