[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
I skied the entire trail system this morning from from the northern tip of the golf course as far south as Brownie Lake. Most skiers were on the 1 km snowmaking loop, but there is a lot of other great skiing at wirth right now. The snowmaking loop is unchanged in size. it is wide and clean. The snow is not particularly fast, and still skis slower than the natural snow trails. Unfortunately the snowmaking loop does not connect to any of the natural snow trails right now, which might explain why the natural trails are getting less traffic. The back 40 (the wooded loop that goes west to Twin Lake) is groomed for skating and in good shape. The remainder of the northern portion of the gold course (the back 9) is ungroomed, but still skiable. I was able to skate the usual course through unbroken snow. If you enjoy breaking trail and setting your own track, you will love the back 9 right now. The front 9 (the south, flat side of the golf course, aka skyline) is the best skiing in the park right now. It is freshly groomed and tracked. The snow is fast and easy to edge there. Tornado alley heading south towards Highway 55 is now a pleasant ski; the ice that was present a few days ago has been covered. Going under Highway 55 looks white but you will need to take your skis off. JD gardens (the flat trails in the lawns south of Wirth lake) is freshly groomed and excellent. The flower gardens section skis ok but the two areas of water crossing are not yet frozen so the course is disjointed and harder to follow. The bog is beautiful right now, groomed for skate only. Overall the snow cover is thin, so the natural snow trails are lumpy. That said, I hit no dirt stones or grass anywhere on the course. Many years the skiing never gets as good as it is right now. Enjoy!

The 1k man-made loop was freshly groomed for this morning for skate and classic - with really clean new snow! The snow guns were going on the other trails with some big piles of snow being created. Definitely a winter wonderland at Wirth!

Fresh rolling on the 1k snowmaking loop this morning, no classic tracks yet however. Pretty good for skating, no slush to contend with. Lots of leaves to dodge though!

Skied from the Trailhead down to Eloise Butler and back. The front 9 has been groomed and is really fun. Pretty much full coverage, with a few avoidable dirty parts. In Tornado Alley the blacktop trails are covered with a half inch of ice, which was fine for my rock skis. There is even ice/snow about half way under the 55 bridge, although the rest is bare concrete. North of Wirth Parkway the back 40 is rolled but not groomed and wasn't nearly as enjoyable. The 1K snowmaking loop is in great shape. The rest of the snowmaking loop and the back 9 were not open.

I skied in the evening. The snowmaking loop was not fun. The snow was hard, dirty, and amazingly slow. I then ventured to the south side of the golf course on the natural snow trails. The connector heading along the railroad tracks aka "tornado alley" is solid ice. Not quite solid enough for ice skates but close. I do not recommend it. Finally I skied the natural snow trails on the golfcourse south of the trailhead. Those trails had been lightly rolled, but blown in, and were basically skier groomed powder. They were a little lumpy, but the snow was soft and fast and a true pleasure to ski. Snow is thin in places but it is just grass underneath.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
About 1k of the snowmaking loop is groomed, tracked and in good condition. Access is via the stairs behind the Trailhead. Natural snow trails were rolled this morning, as well as Green Meadow and Twin Lakes. Coverage is generally ok but it's thin in places. We will check this evening to see if further grooming is possible.

I stopped by Wirth for a ski around 10:45 this morning and despite the 40 degree weather, I found the snow to be surprisingly fast for skate skiing on my old rock skis with 20-25 degree sport wax. The snow is definitely getting dirtier, and there are a few twigs here and there, but overall considering our lack of cold weather and lack of snow, it was pretty good for November 24! The loop is still just 1KM, but there are lots of big snow piles on the adjacent trails ready to be spread out once we have a little more snowmaking weather. Thanks to the trails crew for keeping it going!

Skate skied 1K loop at Wirth today 9-10am. Some sugar snow, great coverage, busy with lots of skiers. Impressive Boulder Nordic store in Trailhead. Classic track not consistent throughout. All great for November 23rd though. Groomers you are appreciated!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
The trails crew has started up the snowguns again for one night of snowmaking. It looks like temps will be favorable for making some nice piles. They will be working on the Ridgeline Trail and over to Coach's Corner. Trail 18 will remain open for skiing.
