New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

The Buzz to Seagull (between summits) to Northern Lights were packed and groomed last night and this morning again. Northern Lights to Abbey, down to Skid Road, to Jolly Long and Anchor were also all packed and groomed this morning. Oppedahl's and Lower Sugarbush were packed, flat dragged and groomed twice this morning. As noted, the snow we got yesterday is lighter but the repeated packing should set well as temperatures are staying low. As of now, all Nordic trails are open. Fat Bike Trail Report: The out and back portion to and around the little loop were double track packed and double rolled with a flat pan drag on the way out. Once it freezes should be firm enough to ride. About 1/2 the trail is groomed. Watch out for eye pokers from the bent over Ironwoods. Thanks for all your support!

Another great day at Ashwabay! We continued with the early (!) season classic skiing, and took Abbey Road from TH to the cabin (with a little Sugarbush in there as well). Then around the back of the mountain on Northern Lights and over to Deer Path. The woods were magical, grooming was very good. Best conditions were after the cabin, as usual - just less people go back there. Tracks were pretty firm the entire way, but there were occasional areas to lift a ski to avoid some early season debris. I only put B skis on the rating because there was no option for an "A-minus" category, and there was enough moving around to warrant some awareness. The skate deck looked even better than the tracks, the volunteers at Ashwabay are amazing.

One of the best Thanksgiving skis that I have had. They got a lot of snow in the Bayfield highlands with this Thanksgiving storm. I brought my skins and waxable skis and ended up using the waxable skis as there was plenty of midwinter like powder snow making for great classic skiing. There were no bare spots and just occasional icy spots on the track especially around the sugar bush cabin which wasn't a factor at all. I did the 9k loop up Sugarbush, around Oppandahl's alley then down Abbey road to the trailhead. Excellent!

Amazing conditions for the first snow of the season! A few dirty spots and a few sticks in the trail, but otherwise very flat and somewhat firm, good tracks (wet in spots). The trees are plastered with snow! We skied a 7k loop and it was fantastic. Hooray for November Skiing! Don't forget to buy a season pass, throw some cash in the box, or pay online to support the trials. Lots of hard work by volunteers and staff over the past 48 hours to get things ready!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
The trail crew packed Abbey Road to the the Cabin, Sugar Bush, the Anchor Loop system, Beginners Loop, Telford Loop, and Seagull to the nordic summit. Much of this was followed by a flat drag and much of it received multiple passes over the day as snow has continued to fall. The snow is firm and packing well. The winds last night left a lot of clean up for the crew today but we are hopeful the lighter winds tonight will leave less for tomorrow. Thanks for your support of Mt. Ashwabay and happy snow season!

[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
All trails, besides Oppedahls, have been cleared or trees and packed since the big storm this past week. Yesterday, The Buzz was groomed and packed. We got 4-6" last night and have been getting more snow throughout the day. Today the crew packed and groomed Sugarbush Classic, Deerpath and Blackbear. Abbey Road to the cabin, the Anchor System and Seagull to the Summit were all packed, Abbey Road was also groomed and the Anchor system is in the process of being groomed. Thanks for your support!
