Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Nice conditions for skate and stride. A little soft on the skate deck, but firming up as the sun went down. Old tracks are still good with a slushy bottom that gave good kick on my skin skis. Some leafy debris, but mostly very clean. It would be great if we can keep it that way.

I took the Piston Bully out on the man made tonight. I retilled the skate deck but left the tracks. Mark got the playground open earlier so lots of room on the trails!

About a 1.25 mile loop of trail was in good condition. Quite fast on the downhills and a bit slower on the up hills. I tried going on part of the trail without man made snow and it was not great but possibly fine with rock skis.

After a busy day at the park the trails were in need of grooming. The Piston Bully was out and tilled the skate deck. The tracks were left in place and are in good condition.

The 2.4k man-made snow loop is now totally complete and was freshly groomed and tracked upon arrival early this morning. Joanie and I skated and strided the trails for a couple of hours. The skate lanes were firm and fast and the tracks were rock-solid. Very good conditions overall. Thanks to the snowmaking and grooming teams for making this happen. The new shelter is a very nice addition to the trail system. Well worth the hour drive from Fitchburg. Trails off the man-made loop have a very thin base.

I had the piston bully out tonight and groomed, and reset tracks on all the man-made snow trails that will be open for skiing tomorrow. With the additional mother nature snow that we received again today, skiing should be really good on the trails that are open. Grooming plans: The snowmakers will be out most of the day tomorrow replenishing the trails that need more depth and width. As always, please respect them and be careful around the snow guns and gators. The DNR has been out rolling the trails off the man-made and I believe they are skiable with rock skis, Happy new year and happy skiing everyone!

The Piston Bully was out again at night. The skate deck was tilled and is in great condition. New classic tracks were also set and should be in great condition. The little bit of snow we've been getting have helped soften up the trail. Grooming plans: Snowmaking we'll start up again on Thursday night and run through Friday night. Please give them room to do their work.

With the groomers report last night about good skate deck conditions I found out they were perfect. Not icy and plenty of loose snow for edging. I thank the groomer for the report as without it I would not have driven 60 miles rould trip. I hope they continue doing it.

The Piston Bully was out at night pushing and leveling the newly made snow. The skate deck was tilled and is in great condition. A new classic track was set and is in great condition as well. I also rolled the rest of the lighted loop as well as the Purple Trail this morning. I would not recommend skiing these sections yet as they are a thin layer of new snow and a very icy base. But it should set up as a nice base layer if we get more snow.
