Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 28 to 37 of 60    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skate skied the trail this afternoon, the 6K loop was very good in the beginning but became slow toward the end. The back loops forming the 11K had little to no corduroy and together with being soft was a little disappointing. The skating deck needs work to become firm enough for a good ski.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Training Loop and Papoose Trails (trails from Papoose Lake Rd. trailhead and east that cross the snowmobile trail) were leveled and re-groomed Thursday afternoon. Skate lane and tracks looking sweet although all trails received a very light dusting of snow overnight. All trails should ski well on Friday.

Skated the 11k and out and back. Conditions were excellent. Track looked solid as well. Gene is back at it. Enjoy the trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
After a disappointing weekend for many of our skiers, and ourselves, WinMan Trails is back to its usual high grooming standards. 2.5K loop was groomed last evening. 6K and Out 'N Back were groomed this morning. Rest of the trail system was groomed in the past 24 hours, with the skate lane freshened up this morning. Skate lanes and tracks in excellent condition. Some tracks may have a light dusting of fresh snow on them.

Based on the previous trail report, it sounds like I arrived at the right time. The chalet was open but the trails had still not been groomed. There was about three inches of fresh snow on the trails. However, the skate deck under the new snow was quite firm. Therefore, conditions were surprisingly good. Overall rating would be good to very good. I skate skied the entire trail system, including the out and back section. Grooming had started by the time I returned several hours later. I did a final pass on the green loop which had just been groomed. It was not groomed full width so it was a bit narrow for skating. I have always found the grooming to be quite good here. I have no complaints.

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial ]
Place seemed closed down, the warming hut was completely locked up. Between that and the lack of grooming all weekend we’ve decided to head elsewhere from now on.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed the 6K loop Monday night. Skate lane and tracks on this loop are in excellent condition (after re-tracking due to dog damage - see picture). Grooming of additional loops will continue Tuesday night.
While WinMan is a dog friendly venue, we ask dog owners to be considerate of trail conditions and not take your dogs on freshly groomed trails, thank you.

Not groomed after snowfall, all frozen ruts from weekend, not fun. Skip this trail and head north (grooming has been inconsistent all year).

Skied WinMan Sunday afternoon and today, around noon. Plenty of snow, but somewhat surprised that there was very little grooming done for either classic or skate. Looks like it had not been touched since Saturday, with the shorter green loop having 2-3” on top, and the 10K loop having at least 4-5”. A bit disappointing given this track has always had attentive grooming in the past. Not too many weekends to experience great snow. All in all, still enjoyable to get out and ski!

Skied WinMan on Friday and stopped after 5k due to lack of grooming. Thought it would be much better for weekend skiing and returned Sunday, but again found most of the trails with several inches of snow and had not yet been groomed. Looked like Fat Tire trails were in great shape, but surprised that ski trails were in poor shape. Hope things change as WinMan is a great trail system.
