Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Skied 40km today. There was fresh snow at the start. Around mid-day AWB had the big ginzu laying down a great skate deck and tracks on the combi trails in the west half of the system. By 2pm they were firm and great skiing! Thanks groomers for the fantastic work on such a big system!

Came to classic ski 20 km and conditions were so great ended up skiing 38 km. Fresh grooming on a about half of the trails: firm corduroy on the skate decks, fast deep firm tracks. The remainder have firm skied in tracks and skate decks with fast and grippy fluff powder. Superb conditions!

Classic skied about 45 km today. Conditions were fabulous! Tracks were solid, fast, with grip for hill climbs. Double poling was doable everywhere. Skate deck was firm for herringboning up steeper sections and added to control on fast down hill descents. Some drifting on Buzz. Thank you groomers for providing these conditions for an awesome last long ski before the Birkie taper. You rock!

Conditions are excellent. Abbey Road, Jolly Long, Skid Road, Northern Lights, and The Buzz were groomed this morning. Lower Anchor was groomed yesterday afternoon. There is currently about four inches of snow on top of the classic only trails.

I was looking forward to an easy 10 km today, but the person I was going ski with canceled? Today was a beautiful ski! Classic skied 36 km on mostly snowed in tracks. Grooming was great on the combi trails, under 2 inches of new fluff. Tracks and skate deck were reliable, firm and even. Kick was good and glide was decent with purple swix with a touch of turquoise. Hill climbs had ample grip to stay in the tracks and the base on combi trails is firm enough to double pole.

Classic skied about 35 km today. Grooming was great, snow enhanced by lake effect fell all day. Conditions were good- fresh snow with constant accumulation, slower glide, great kick, softer feel to tracks and skate decks. Awesome to see Summit Racers having a good time at the race today, and it was fun to pass and push them on skiing through Northern Lights and the Buzz sections.

Skate skied Abbey and Northern Light trails. Fresh corduroy most of the way. Most other trails looked to be groomed today as well. Classic track looked great. Fantastic conditions, trails were fast despite cold overnight temperatures.

Classic skied 26 km today. Conditions are freshly groomed as of yesterday, but wind blown. Tracks and skate deck are solid, under the wind blown snow. Grip is good, glide was great with swix blue mixed with green hot wax. Even though it was cold, it was hard to make myself stop. A great ski! Thanks again groomers!

Classic skied 28 or 30 km early this afternoon. Conditions are groomed on part of Anchor, Abbey Road, and Buzz. Watch out if you're coming down Buzz with any speed because the tracks kind of switchback, aren't fluid, can be tough on the ankles. Deer Path, Northern Lights, Jerry's Long Loop, Skid Road, Sugar Bush and that cluster have fairly recent grooming with a dusting of snow. Overall, the tracks are mostly skied in on old grooming, softish with ok kick and good glide; skate deck is soft. Purple and red swix wax was smoking fast for these conditions when I skied. Can't wait to ski it fast when the conditions can handle the speed! Thanks volunteer groomers! Less than a month til the Birkie!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We have a good base 8"-12" groomed. Most of the trails are pretty firm with few softer areas. Friday morning grooming included skate and classic Trails: Abbey Road, Jolly Long, Telford. Thursday morning we did prepping for the Summit Race: Anchor, Anchor Switchback, Rollercoaster, Abbey Rd, Jolly (just straight to Skid Rd), Skid Rd, Northern Lights, Buzz. Wednesday morning we did all classic only trails.
