Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

Classic skied about 24 km this afternoon during the warmest part of the day. Conditions are phenomenal, in my opinion. The tracks and skate deck are firm. There's good glide, grip for kick and double poling is a possibility on a majority of what I skied. Can't wait to ski it again this weekend! Thank you groomers!

Classic skied 36 km on the Grand Tour loop at Ashwabay today. Freshly groomed tracks and fresh corduroy on the skate deck on most trails. Tracks and skate decks are firm soft. The snow is cold with the temperature so glide isn't the best, alot of grip for kicking. Conditions on the trails that are fully groomed are excellent! Great day for a ski to warm up on a cold day!

Classic skied about 18 km this afternoon. Skied in a fresh 2 to 3 inches of fluff through Anchor, Sugarbush, North Lights and Buzz. A great shake down of the legs after OO loop 42 km (3:20) on the Birkie yesterday! Due to the new snow it was all kick and no glide for first tracks. Look forward to skiing the good hills at Ashwabay, it's such an awesome Birkie Classic trainer! Thank you groomers!

Headlamp classic skied about 18 km this evening. Beautiful! Tracks were awesome on Sugarbush, Anchor, and Seagull. Solid with decent kick and buttery smooth glide! Skate deck was firm, but soft. I notice on Northern Lights that there must be a mismatch with grooming over old tracks (on old deer path section and up hills), or the snow was soft, made it uneven and goofy for skiing there. Great ski!

Close to eight inches of snow from Friday night was groomed today. Most of the grooming took place during the day so some areas were skied on before the trail set up. All the trails both skate and classic have been groomed and are in excellent condition.

Classic skied 37 km today. Conditions are a little slow and soft at the moment. Ashwabay received about 2 to 3 inches of new snow as I skied. Mostly old grooming on trails. I skied in the tracks in new snow on Anchor trails three times, Northern Lights twice, Sugarbush, Deer Path backwards, Seagull, and Rollercoaster. Tracks and skate deck are very soft on these trails. Jerry's Long Loop and Abbey Road had recently groomed tracks and corduroy with a light dusting of snow. Be careful pole planting on the up hills on Northern Lights and Jerry's Long Loop on the outside part of the tracks, snow is very soft. Some wind blown sections here and there with drifting. Good ski. High energy expenditure!
