Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied the golf course trails and a section of the multiuse trail. Overall pretty good conditions. Skate deck was fast. There are a few thin spots and debris in the wooded sections. However I felt the overall condition was good to excellent. Looks like it might have been groomed Thursday or early today. I used my good skis and no damage to bottom of skis. However I did use caution in certain areas.

North loop (multi-use) was pretty choppy but still enjoyable 6/10. A bit of debris on the trails in the woods. South loop in better shape. Very solid 8/10 I'd say.

Good to very good skate deck overall, golf course loop was the best. Only a few thin spots, otherwise I'd say good skis. There was heavy equipment working on the far northern access trail from the YMCA, which had it torn up with tire and track ruts. I had to detour to get back to my car because the trail was closed and blocked with Parks Dept. vehicles. Overall I was surprised how slow it seemed, possibly the abrasiveness of the cold new snow. Classic track looked real good.

Groomer was there this afternoon. Great snow coverage. As of 2:30PM the skate deck on the golf course had been groomed and tracks were set on most portions of the golf course. Tracks looked nice and deep on the golf course. Skate deck was a little soft - I would expect it to firm up overnight. It looked like the woods/multi-use section was in process of being groomed.

Skied from approximately 4 pm. Trails appear to have been rolled. If tracks were set, they were too soft to hold together. Appears more like skied in tracks. Lots of foot traffic! Nice fresh snow.

No new grooming at Chomonix as of 3pm Sunday, but plenty of folks out enjoying decent skier-made tracks. Gorgeous day and good snow cover, so hopefully grooming coming soon as it has been pretty decent this year.

First Chomonix ski. The groomer worked with little, made it just enough. Multi-use trail was leafy. The ski trail was firm and fast.

First time at Chomonix. Went over after seeing good reports. Probably the best skate conditions outside manmade anywhere given our current snow conditions. Dead flat, you could double poll the whole thing easily. Just nice even long glides and good edge control.. Snow was even fairly quiet. A pleasant change from battling the bumpy, icy trails elsewhere and no foot traffic to speak up. Good skis not a problem. Some dirt/debris but easily avoidable. Closest thing to skiing on a lake. Good solid classic tracks, a bit dirtier however.

I skated both the golf course and woods/multi-use sections. I would rate the golf course as "good skis' and the multi-use as "B skis". Both sections were in the best condition I've seen them all year. It looked like the skate deck had been freshly groomed since the light snow yesterday. The skate deck was smooth and fast with just a few small sections of ice, but the groomed had done a good job of breaking up the ice. Classic tracks looked good both on the golf course and in the woods.

The trails are getting lots of use! A bit icier today, a few thin spots and a little debris. Fast. Classic Tracks are still in good shape overall except at crossroads. Thank you Anoka County Parks.
